This course focuses on the worldwide growth of education and the comparative methodologies that are making education systems globalized while retaining national characteristics. In the first part of the course, we look at key terms such as globalization, comparative education, internationalization, and transnationalism in policies, programs, and people. In the second half, the focus will be on case studies of Japan, the U.S., and European educational systems as well as education in the developing world. Students will learn about the nature of globalization through and in education as well as understand what different roles are played by primary to higher education, and how systems of education are linked to national economies and purposes. |
