3-D sound systems are important for game soft development, movie production, concert or sports event live broadcasti ng. Comparing to a surrounding system (Dolby or dts system), which reproduces the spatial extension of a real environme nt, a 3-D sound system can freely reproduce or create sound images at the perceptual space. Through virtual 3-D sounds, one can also experience an artificial world of creation. The aim of this course is to give students a thorough introdu ction to the fundamentals of psychological aspects concerning with spatial hearing. Existing 3-D sound systems will be introduced. A summary will be given about the recent development on the systems of virtual 3-D sound. At the end of the course, the student will understand the psychoacoustical fundamentals concerning with the spatial hearing and be able to develop virtual 3-D sound based on HRTFs and multi-speaker systems. |
