This course explores the role of business in world politics from the perspectives of International Relations and Business Studies. For students with an interest in politics and the policy world, it provides an introduction to the drivers of corporate political activity. We will draw on the concepts of the firm’s ‘non-market environment’ and ‘non-market strategy’ from the Business Studies literature to explore why companies engage with social and political issues, why they choose specific strategies of social and political engagement, and what challenges and opportunities they encounter. |
