This was one of the most engaging class I have taken in Sophia’s FLA. Prof. You does a very good job in stimulating the class through active participation (writing on the board, talking on the mic, etc.). Most of the readings done in the class were also very interesting even for a people who are new to literature courses. Depending on the pace of the class, more time might be dedicated to some readings, especially the full novels. It is crucial that students pay attention to Prof. Yiu’s additional comments as they often appear in the exams. |

日本のliterature を英語で読む。 テストは授業を聞いてきちんとノートをとっていれば、ノート持ち込みなのである程度はできる。 |

源氏物語とか雪国などの日本の小説を英語で読む。授業中、黒板に生徒は気になったセリフなどを書き出しそれを自ら解説し、教授はそれを補足したりなどして授業は進む。中間試験、期末試験ともに、授業にて取り扱ったセリフなどについて聞かれるため、基本的には授業はしっかり聞かなくてはならない。 |

授業を聞いて、本を読めば楽勝。 授業にも積極的に参加するべき。 ノート持ち込みできるので友達と協力して新しくノート作っても良いかも。 留学生でできる人が多いのでA取得は難しいかもしれない。が、Bは普通に頑張れば来る。 |

Lectures on classic Japanese literary texts, from the works of Soseki, Mishima, Ogai, to Basho, Yasunari Kawabata. Most of the texts are uploaded on Moodle, but students are required to buy three books within the semester. The class in a combination of lecture and group discussion, and almost every class ends with the professor getting into the details of what students have said. Very recommended, especially for book worms. If you attend every class, do your readings, look back at your notes, there is nothing to worry about the exams. However, the year I took this class needed a few changes, since our class was a bit too big for the professor to mark papers. She had said that originally she was planning to ask students to write papers on texts, so I’m not sure if that would be applied for you. Super interesting, fun class. Must take if you are in Sophia. |
